iSlate App Reviews

Great program

Almost perfect the only add ons I would improve on are: 1: a sync-able timecode 2: more options for fps It works great for a time of day MOS insert slate. Look for this program to show up on the behind the scenes in movies and shows. Great program worth every penny

Best slate app...

Best slate application for the iPhone/iTouch. I find iSlate to be far superior and more full-featured than the two other slate apps "LlamaSlate" or "Slate". Two things I would like to see updated: - FPS to be user defined as opposed just the pre-set speeds so that can be used as MOS slate (ie 75fps, 96fps, 120fps, etc.) - Timecode to have an option that can be user defined instead of just Time Of Day.

A good attempt

A good attempt at making a slate. It would be nice to have the option of allowing the user to change the FPS to any number, not just the defined ones included. Also, it would be nice to turn off the timecode so the slate could be used as an MOS insert slate. Lastly, it would be nice to add the space for "slate" for the British/Canadian slating system. Hopefully future versions will have these options.

Cant access settings

I like the app but I cant get to settings and it wont record to the log!

Okay

Logging feature and notes doesnt seem to function... And as others mentioned, user defined fps would be nice. Also a help feature would be useful to define the options in the settings.

No settings

Update please. App does not work. Settings will not open. 30fps only. Lame!

Good, but missing some key features… UPDATE!

So after some fussing around, it turns out fps CAN be infinitely adjusted. Go to iSlate in the iPhone Settings menu and choose custom for frame rate. You can now enter any number in the fps box you want. There are a bunch of other settings there as well, including auto-logging clips, which is kinda handy. Those two things alone make this slate app an even better value at $2.99, but it could still benefit from the other stuff I mentioned in my previous review.

Good Start

I think if the developers of this app got together with the developers of llama slate and merged the two, wed have something perfect. I like the look of iSlate way better. Its much more slate-like. And its just what Ive been waiting for. However, llama slate is superior when it comes to options and scene numbering etc. Good start though. Itll be worth the two bucks with some updates. What Id like to see: - the option to use a sort of chalk-like font for the black slate. - the ability to switch to the more modern, white clapper. - auto-increments with take #s. - Better/more prominent clap sound.

useless

camera cannot read the slate through the glare if you have a screen protector I want my money back

Great application!

This is great for run & gun shooting. Since I always have my phone with me, its nice to have this useful app handy. Works well and you cant beat the price.

Nice start I would pay more for better

Like others have said its a good start but more features like auto incriment and ltc out would make it pro. Also as others have said the clap is delayed in relation to the clapper top which is a bummer.

Getting better all the time

This slate is nice-looking and has real framerates, auto-incrementing, and easy clapping via the accelerometer. The developer has been great about listening to customers concerns and suggestions. There have been several highly appreciated updates. Id still love audio timecode output, but this application is already very useful.

Superb Field Tool for video AND still shooting

This is the field slate Ive been waiting for! A perfect field app for run and gun shooting, multicam syncing, and portability. Every suggested imporovement noted in earlier reviews has been addressed - remarkable for a low-cost app! Choose the auto-take feature for scenes - it automatically ups the number of the take. I use this for STILL shoots also to more easily catalog shots in Adobe Lightroom and to identify the model/client. Best part - one less piece of gear to pack. Get this!

simple and fast

Fast! No lag, as with "slate". Id like to see the on/off button area be bigger(sausage fingers). would like an option to see camera roll auto fill in "roll" area, for example. if camera is "A", roll could read A01. Lastly, Id like an option to turn off the "opening" sound. good work. Great update-3 more requests Button in notes to mark a preffered take Exportable notes or better yet a desktop version. This would be a great script supervisor tool Thanks!

Nice little app- keep at it!

Next Id love to see 24p support added. Right now its only 24 fps, thats not the same as 23.98. Also make the slate noise LOUD and customizable. Its much more important to hear something loud and obvious to spot in post on a waveform than a sampled sound of a real clapper. Generate a loud test tone that lasts exactly one frame as an alternative- more accurate and useful

Extremely handy

Replaced the clipboard, sharpies and papers...

Great fixes

I previously gave this app a poor review due to some lost data issues I had. The problem has since been fixed and I’m amending my review to reflect that, yet again, I love this app. And the latest update (Feb 5, 2009 I believe) has added some more features that are fantastic. Now, just a few suggestions/requests to improve its usefulness even more: 1.) More variability in font sizes. This is especially an issue with the scene number. If it’s even just slightly too big, the font shrinks so small that it’s hard to read on the camera, and there’s a ton of empty space around it. It would be great to see the program choose the largest possible font size that fits. 2.) I love the Auto-take feature. As an extension, is it possible to make it so that, when changing the scene number, the Take number automatically rolls back to one? 3.) As somebody else mentioned, the clapper opening sound is not necessary. It only poses a risk to triggering during and ruining a take. 4.) In the Notes section of the Log, a quick Good/Bad Take option would be handy and speedy. 5.) Also, in the notes, an MOS check-box would be handy. It doesn’t need to be displayed on the slate itself, but would be great for shot logging. 6.) Last for the Notes, I know there’s a Save button, but is it possible to make it auto-save when hitting Done? Multiple times, I’ve been in a rush and lost what I typed because I pressed Done without saving. 7.) And I know this last one is just me being way too picky and demanding, but I tend to write my dates different than most people. A format of YY/MM/DD would be cool.

Sweeeet

Im a 1st AC on a top ten TV show, and all the camera dept loves this app! We use it for all our MOS insert shots now. You cant beat a backlit insert slate for a few bucks! Plus youve always got it with you. Suggestions: 1. Ability to manually write in any FPS (eg. 3, 6, 12) the timecode wouldnt need to support these framerates - it could just go to MOS and turn off the numbers (like we would do with a real slate) 2. MOS mode with no numbers 3. Color options for text (eg. Red for "A", blue for "B" 4. some way to jam the iSlate thru the iPhone connector to the sound mixers equipment 5. Keep those updates coming & Ill be back with your 5th star!

Great and useful. Please fix frame rate.

Great app. One important note; the frame rate for 24p is 23.98 fps, not 23.97. Big difference. Very important for post-production. Looking forward to the update.

Not a video recorder?

This app wasnt what I thought it was going to be. I thought it was a video recorer, and if it is one- I still have yet to figure it out. I am VERY unhappy, and dissapointed in this app. I Want My Money back.
