iSlate App Reviews

arent all the advertised features supposed to EXIST!

WTF!! I just paid for this and it is the worst design possible for any sort of actual use. It not only opens in the open (timecode running) mode, but I cannot reset the timer, change the frame rate, or automatically adjust the take #! Not only that, but the f-ing sync beep sounds when you close the clapper. FIX PLEASE!

Very Utilitarian!

I would definitely recommend this App over Apples Slate App any day. iSlate allows you to easily reset the timecode just by tapping the counting numbers, and all the other settings are highly customizable. The one nuissance I found with it is that to change most settings, you have to exit out of the App, and go to the iPhone/iPod settings>iSlate. If youre looking for an awesome, utilitarian slate that you can take with you on the go, buy iSlate. Its worth the money!

Great alternative to real slate w/timecode

Very good app. Does the job for what is described. Great portablility over a traditional slate at a fraction of the cost. Not sure what poor reviewers expected because this does what was described. I agree that the clap sound could be louder to sync with external audio recorder. Time code is difficult to adjust while it is going. when entering this manually, stop the timer, b/c if you are trying to adjust to match a camera, you need to have same running time. great app otherwise - worth the money! (cheaper than a similar real slate which is $1100+)

It works!

Like it! Only thing I want is custom frame rate. You have like 10 to chose from, but sometimes thats not enough.

Great app. in theory. Only have one problem with it, it doesnt work with an external video source. When shooting with multiple cameras it would be nice to be able to plug the ipod into a projector and have all cameras shoot it at the same time on the big screen. Other than that its a nice app.

Love it

I use it for my films all the time. Great app. So much better than any other app like it. Well there really is no app that can compare

iSlate

Im givin this app five stars, but I would also tell the developers that they need to add a way to save a screen shot so that we can use the app to help identify locations, dates, etc when photos are saved to the laptop. Pardon my pun but I hope you get the picture!

to the developers

figure out how to inject Timecode into it from a source...and every music video production company will want one.

Great 4 Live music videos

I was able to sync three P2 cameras, it worked well. Would love to have audio locked with the timecode for Music video playback. Right now I just create an audio/video file with timecode on one track and music on the other.

Great tool for indie filmmakers!

Love this little app. Cant wait to use it on our next Canon 5D shoot with sync sound. Maybe one day someone could figure out a bluetooth interface for jam-syncing the timecode, that would be sweet.

almost perfect

very good slate app compared to all other available, by far best...... but to work LIKE a slate it needs to be able to get "jammed", i know theres no real way to do it, but if one could at least have a way to bypass the time code put in by iphone from its own clock and instead me being able to go into a menu and match to the sound mixers time code as close as possible by hand, it would make it possible for me to use it on set in those rare moments that you might need more than one slate and all i have is my iphone

Almost Perfect

I bought this for a shoot last night and its great. It has almost everything I want and I definitely reccomend it over the other slate apps. But I need some upgrades soon! Please allow us (or tell me how to do it if its possible cuz I cant figure it out) to email the logs to ourselves. The clapper sound needs to be a lot louder and the timecode needs to STOP when I reset it. Also have the notes auto-save when you hit done, instead of having to save then hit done. Give us an option to change the "Roll" box to something else; the age of digital is upon us an not all of us shoot on rolls of film. Make these changes and I give it a 5th star. Good work!

Neat, but not yet a revolution

This could be a revolutionary app, especially with the iPad. A couple features are needed: true jam-syncing either from external LTC or internal LTC source (accepted by audio / external mic), and use of the internal mic as a "slate mic." Transmit either by cable or Bluetooth to the sound recordist, who would split the Stereo signal to two tracks: one channel for verbal slate reading and manual slate clap sound, and the second channel for continuous / stamping LTC. This could also work for continuously syncing cameras with external sync capability. Throw this on a big iPad display and suddenly SMPTE sync slate becomes affordable for prosumers and students who are otherwise frightened by timecode, and then they have no excuses for not taking script supervisor notes. Everybody wins!

So-so

Decent app. Annoying clap sound, could sound a LOT better. The swipe action has to be pretty precise at the moment. A bigger area to move your finger when beginning to use the swipe animation would be nice.

like it a lot but need an iPad version

Very useful app and on an ipad its big enough for multiple cameras to catch it at the same time. Feature Request(s): Programable time code or external sync (via bluetooth?) would be great. Slightly louder "clap" would be nice.

Screenshot

You can do a screenshot by depressing the iPhones Home and On buttons at the same time. Also works on iPad. This works with almost any App.

Bluetooth or wifi sync

This would be the best Slate app, if it had the ability to sync to another iPhone/iPad/iPod. Making it possible to shoot multiple cameras at once... Otherwise its perfect!!

Cant access the control panel.

I agree with many reviews here. I purchased this based on promise. Not able to adjust frame rate bites right now. I have restarted and reinstalled the application. Still cant adjust the frame rate. Please fix! Thanks overall, cant wait to really use this.

iSlate clapper sync issue

At first, the iSlate seems good enough. Yeah, you cant change "roll," and youre missing "shot" as an option, and the clapper sound is waaaay too soft, but hey, it only costs $2.99, so you forgive those things. Unfortunately, the real problem is that the clapper sound effect and the visual slap of the slate are not in sync! Theres a three frame delay between the visual clap of the clapper and the beep of the app. So...the very thing that a slate is supposed to be used for - syncing audio and visual - this app doesnt do. Im surprised I havent read other reviews that say this. Luckily, our camera also records sound, or we would have been majorly Fed. Only reason Im giving two stars is bc iSlate is still better than no slate at all... But an upgrade to address this sync issue would be SWEET.
